Yudeng Pu Leather Manufacturer’s Dry-Process Production Line

In the global synthetic leather industry, Pu leather has become a key material for clothing, footwear, balls, and household goods. Compared to natural leather, Pu leather offers price advantages, stable supply, diverse appearances, and environmental friendliness, making it the preferred choice of many international brands and manufacturers.

As a synthetic leather manufacturer specializing in Pu leather for balls, Yudeng has established a mature dry-process production line through years of development and research. Simply put, the dry-process production line forms a Pu film layer on a base fabric through a series of processes, including coating, knife coating, and drying. Curing is achieved through heat and physical methods, rather than using solvent-immersion tanks. This process reduces water and chemical consumption, is more environmentally friendly, and makes it easier to control production stability.

For buyers and brands, Yudeng’s dry-process production line not only represents consistent quality and controllable delivery cycles, but also demonstrates the factory’s advanced production management capabilities and commitment to environmental responsibility. For this reason, Yudeng’s dry-process Pu leather is often used in sports equipment such as footballs, basketballs, and volleyballs, meeting design requirements while ensuring wear resistance and a comfortable feel.

Dry-process Production Line Process and Key Equipment

To understand the advantages of Yudeng’s dry-process production line, let’s first examine the process. While the process may sound technical, it can actually be broken down into several straightforward steps:

Step 1: Base Fabric Preparation

The first step in dry-process production is preparing the base fabric. The base fabric is typically made of polyester, cotton, or non-woven fabric. It undergoes shaping and cleaning before proceeding to the next step. This seemingly simple step directly impacts the leather’s strength and appearance. Wrinkles or impurities in the base fabric can lead to defects in the subsequent coating.

Step 2: Coating and Scraping

This is the core step in dry-process production. The machine evenly applies the Pu slurry to the base fabric surface, then uses a scraper to control the thickness. The precision of the scraping determines the leather’s feel and consistency. Yudeng has introduced automated coating equipment for this process, allowing computer-controlled coating thickness to avoid manual fluctuations.

Step 3: Drying and Curing

The dry process eliminates the need for immersion in a water tank like the wet process. Instead, the Pu leather layer is heated and dried to evaporate the solvent, gradually solidifying into a film. The drying temperature and speed must be precisely controlled to prevent blistering or cracking. Yudeng’s production line utilizes a segmented drying oven, with each section temperature independently adjustable to ensure a dense, even leather structure.

Step 4: Surface Treatment

After forming the film, the Pu leather is embossed, printed, dyed, or gloss-adjusted based on its intended use. For example, a football surface requires a fine grain texture to enhance friction, while a basketball prefers a uniform, dimpled texture. Yudeng is equipped with a variety of embossing rollers and printing equipment, enabling flexible texture adjustments based on customer needs.

Step 5: Post-Processing and Inspection

The final steps include trimming, cutting, adhesion testing, and abrasion testing. Before shipment, Yudeng subjects each batch of Pu leather to bending tests, abrasion tests, and color fastness testing to ensure compliance with international ball production standards.

These process steps rely on a comprehensive suite of key equipment, including automatic coating machines, staged drying ovens, embossing machines, and inspection equipment. This equipment not only improves production efficiency but also ensures greater control over quality.

Dry vs. Wet Processes: Why Choose a Dry Production Line?

In the synthetic leather industry, dry and wet processes are two common processes. Why does Yudeng emphasize dry production? Here are several reasons:

Environmental Advantages

The wet process requires film formation in a water tank, which consumes a large amount of water and produces wastewater. The dry process, on the other hand, uses virtually no water, and solvents can be recycled, making it more compliant with current environmental regulations and sustainable development trends. For many international brands, environmental compliance is a must for suppliers.

Process Stability

Because the wet process relies on chemical coagulation, it is prone to uneven film thickness. The dry process primarily uses equipment to control coating thickness, resulting in greater process stability. Yudeng’s dry-process production line ensures that the thickness variation of each batch of Pu leather is controlled within ±0.02mm, which is crucial for the consistency of ball products.

Cost and Efficiency

Although the dry-process production line requires higher initial investment, it is more efficient. It does not require lengthy soaking, cleaning, and drying processes, and can complete production in a shorter cycle. This allows Yudeng to respond to customer orders more quickly.

Material Properties

Pu leather produced using the dry-process has a lighter feel and exhibits excellent folding and abrasion resistance, making it ideal for sports balls. The wet-process is more suitable for clothing or sofas that require high softness, but the dry-process offers advantages for products such as footballs and basketballs.

Performance and Applications of Dry-Process Pu Leather

Yudeng’s dry-process Pu leather is widely used in various industries due to its outstanding properties.

Sports Balls

Footballs, basketballs, and volleyballs are Yudeng’s key markets. Dry-process Pu leather provides stable friction, good abrasion resistance, and strong bending resistance, ensuring that the ball retains its shape despite frequent impact and friction. For example, a soccer ball may experience thousands of kicks and blows during a match, which ordinary materials struggle to withstand. However, Yudeng’s dry-process leather can withstand over 100,000 abrasions.

Footwear Industry

Dry-process Pu leather is also used on the outer layers of some athletic shoes because it maintains its lightness while resisting external scratches. Compared to natural leather, it is also more stain-resistant and water-resistant.

Furniture and Decoration

Dry-process Pu leather can be embossed with a variety of textures, from high gloss to matte, from fine grain to simulated leather, meeting the aesthetic needs of the furniture and decoration industries. Its environmentally friendly nature also makes it popular with consumers.

Automotive Interiors

With the automotive industry’s emphasis on lightweighting and environmental protection, dry-process Pu leather is gradually becoming an alternative fabric for car seats and interiors. It is not only wear-resistant but also resists fading even under prolonged sunlight.

Yudeng’s Dry-Process Production Line Innovation and Quality Control

Yudeng’s dry-process production line development goes beyond standardization and continuously enhances its competitiveness through technological innovation.

Automation and Intelligence

Yudeng has introduced an automated coating system that monitors thickness and uniformity in real time. Using sensors and data analysis, production personnel can adjust parameters promptly to reduce defective product rates.

Environmentally Friendly Solvents and Circulation Systems

During the coating process, Yudeng uses low-VOC solvents and is equipped with a solvent recovery system to reduce environmental emissions. This not only meets the environmental requirements of European and American customers but also reduces production costs.

Diverse Customization Capabilities

Yudeng boasts a comprehensive suite of embossing molds, offering customers hundreds of texture options. For example, the grainy texture common in soccer balls, the deep grooves of basketballs, and the delicate lines of volleyballs can all be created on the production line. Customers can also customize color, gloss, and even anti-slip features.

Strict Quality Inspection

Each batch of Pu leather undergoes a series of tests before shipment, including:

• Abrasion Test: Simulates the friction of a ball on a court.
• Flex Test: Tests durability under repeated bending and folding.
• Color Fastness Test: Checks for fading from sunlight and perspiration. Environmental testing ensures the absence of harmful substances and compliance with international standards such as REACH and ROHS.

It is precisely because of this comprehensive quality system that Yudeng has earned the trust of customers worldwide.
