Yudeng Pu Leather Manufacturer is more than just a material supplier; it’s a professional manufacturer that can tailor solutions to market needs and provide systematic, customized solutions. The company has been deeply involved in the Pu leather industry for many years, with a particular focus on the research and development of leather for sports balls. For example, in the production of leather for sports balls like soccer balls, basketballs, and volleyballs, Yudeng not only provides surface texture designs but also tailors the appropriate backing fabric to customer needs, ensuring the leather possesses excellent elasticity, abrasion resistance, and a long lifespan.
Unlike some suppliers who focus solely on price or surface effects, Yudeng prioritizes the balanced overall performance of the material. They understand that the true value of Pu leather lies not only in its aesthetic appearance but also in the underlying fabric structure that supports its performance. It is this dedication to detail that has enabled Yudeng to serve sports brands, footwear companies, and luggage manufacturers worldwide, establishing stable partnerships.

The Core Role of Backing Fabric in Pu Leather
Many customers, when customizing Pu leather, often focus on the color, texture, or sheen of the surface layer, overlooking the importance of the backing fabric. However, one of the key factors that truly determines the performance of leather is the backing fabric.
First, the backing fabric is the skeleton of the leather. Think of it like the foundation of a house; while it’s not directly visible, it determines the overall structural stability. Without the right backing, even the most beautiful surface layer will quickly wear, crack, and even lose its original shape during use.
Second, the backing directly affects wear resistance and flex resistance. For example, in high-frequency friction applications like soccer balls, an inappropriate backing can quickly crack the leather, rendering the entire ball useless. Using a high-quality polyester or knitted backing can significantly extend the leather’s lifespan.
Third, the backing determines comfort and stretchability. For shoes and bags, customers constantly bend and stretch the material during use. If the backing fabric is too stiff, the upper won’t conform properly to the foot, resulting in a poor wearing experience. On the other hand, if the backing fabric is too loose, the shoe or bag will easily lose its shape.
Finally, the backing fabric also reflects environmental performance. With increasingly stringent global environmental regulations, customers are increasingly concerned about the sustainability of materials. Using recyclable and renewable backing fabrics not only helps brands establish an environmentally friendly image but also complies with EU REACH and OEKO-TEX® certification requirements, paving the way for international market entry.
Therefore, when customizing Pu leather, the choice of backing fabric must be taken with extreme care. It not only impacts the performance of the final product but also directly influences market reputation and user experience.
Common Pu Leather Backing Fabric Types and Characteristics
There are numerous types of backing fabrics, each suitable for different applications. Yudeng, through long-term manufacturing and R&D, has identified several common and widely used backing fabric types, each with unique advantages and applications.
Non-woven Backing Fabrics
Non-woven backing fabrics are lightweight, breathable, and cost-effective, making them commonly used in cost-sensitive products. For example, for some mid-range and low-end balls or lightweight shoes, non-woven fabric backings can meet basic strength requirements while remaining economical. However, their durability and flex resistance are relatively average, making them unsuitable for high-end or frequently used products.
Knitted Fabric Backing
Knitted fabric backings are soft and stretchy, making them particularly suitable for high-end balls. For example, basketballs and volleyballs require a good feel and stable elasticity during use, and knitted fabrics are an excellent match for these requirements. The knitted structure also provides improved rebound when bent, preventing permanent deformation of the material.
Polyester Fabric Backing
Polyester fabric is widely favored for its excellent wear resistance and stability, making it particularly suitable for footwear and luggage applications. It maintains structural integrity and prevents cracking even under frequent bending and friction. Many international footwear brands prefer polyester fabric backings to ensure consistent product quality.
Cotton Fabric Backing
The key features of cotton fabric backings are its comfort, soft feel, and excellent breathability. It is often used in high-end leather products, such as high-end custom shoes and luxury luggage. However, cotton is relatively expensive and less durable than polyester, so it is often used as a differentiating factor in certain applications.
Special Functional Backing Fabrics
With the diversification of market demands, functional backing fabrics are gaining increasing attention. For example, flame-retardant backing fabrics can be used in public facilities or specialized occupational footwear; environmentally friendly backing fabrics align with green manufacturing trends and are recyclable. These types of backing fabrics are increasingly used in customized production and have become a key research and development area for Yudeng.
By understanding these common backing fabrics, customers can make more targeted choices and find the most appropriate solution based on their product positioning and market needs.
How to Choose the Right High-Quality Backing Fabric for Custom Pu Leather
Choosing a backing fabric is not a simplistic decision; it requires a comprehensive assessment based on the product application, performance requirements, and production conditions. Let’s break down this process into several steps:
Step 1: Identify the Application and Requirements
For example, Pu leather used in footballs and basketballs requires high elasticity and abrasion resistance; Pu leather used in luggage prioritizes folding resistance and support. Different application scenarios directly determine the basic requirements for the backing.
Step 2: Select the appropriate backing fabric based on performance requirements
If the customer requires durability and good tensile strength, a polyester backing is the best choice. If comfort and stretchability are important, knitted or cotton fabrics are more suitable.
Step 3: Testing and Verification
After selecting a backing, its performance must be verified through professional testing. Common methods include:
Martindale Abrasion Test: Tests the material’s durability under friction;
Peel Strength Test: Verifies the bond between the backing and the surface Pu leather;
Flexural Test: Simulates the bending and flexing experienced during long-term use.
Step 4: Avoid Common Mistakes
Some customers focus too much on cost and ignore long-term performance results, ultimately leading to the risk of rework or returns. Other customers focus solely on appearance, neglecting the matching of the backing with post-processing, resulting in cracking or delamination.
Step 5: Communicate with a Professional Manufacturer
Choosing a professional artificial leather factory like Yudeng significantly reduces risk. Through OEM/ODM services, customers can achieve personalized customization in color, texture, logo, and even environmental certification, while also receiving Yudeng’s professional advice to avoid unnecessary mistakes.
